Milwaukee-Eight™ History

The Milwaukee-Eight™ is a great example of the constant innovation that has driven Harley-Davidson® forward for the past century. Since the first F-head engines, Harley-Davidson® has set the pace for other motorcycle manufacturers. In 1936 for instance, Harley® set the standard for air cooled engines with their Knucklehead motor design. The Shovelhead engine of the 1960s changed touring when it first rolled onto the road in the original Electra-Glide motorcycles. The eighties saw the unveiling of the Evolution engine, which in turn ceded to the Twin Cam engine in 1999. Now it's time for the next generation of touring power. It's time for the Milwaukee-Eight™.

Milwaukee-Eight™ Power

Touring bikes need plenty of power, that's just a fact. With that in mind, Harley-Davidson® has created their most powerful engine yet in the Milwaukee-Eight. Compared to it's predecessor, the Twin Cam engine, the Milwaukee-Eight™ is bigger, and lighter. The improved power to weight ratio means that the Milwaukee-Eight™ gets a full 10% boost in available torque to a total of 111 ft. lbs. The size of the new touring engine also helps to produce more power. Clocking in at 107 cubic inches, the Milwaukee-Eight™ is already one of the largest motors that Harley-Davidson® has ever put on the road, however there's more where that come from. Available exclusively on the 2017 CVO™ Touring models, the Milwaukee-Eight™ is also available in a whopping 114 cubic inch model. If that still doesn't sound like enough engine for you, then strap on your helmet and hold on tight, because the new Screamin' Eagle Stage III upgrade will boost the displacement of the Milwaukee-Eight™ up to a mind blowing 117 cubic inches.

Milwaukee-Eight™ Performance

While power is one important part of a touring ride, the Milwaukee-Eight™ delivers plenty of performance as well. This motor is designed to run cooler, smoother, and more efficiently than any Harley-Davidson® V-Twin to date. The precision cooling system in the Milwaukee-Eight™ flows directly through the hottest parts of the engine, pulling away the heat so you experience a cooler ride especially at very low speeds. The counter balancer installed in the Milwaukee-Eight™ keeps your ride smooth as you push up to the red line, and if you're waiting at a light you'll notice a smoother idle thanks to the rubber mounting. Finally the combination of the eight valve design, and the precisely timed electronic fuel injection helps the Milwaukee-Eight™ get the most out of every drop of fuel, providing an major increase in efficiency, and a reduction in emissions.
